The Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles is inviting the public to celebrate the Feast Day of their holy sovereigns, King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, at 9 a.m. Nov. 22 at the church located at 1407 Kapiolani St. in Hilo.

“The Holy Sovereigns Feast Day is our opportunity to celebrate all King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma did for the people of Hawaii,” said Holy Apostles rector the Rev. Moki Hino.
“The royal couple built up stronger alliances in the international community for Hawaii, especially with Britain. They allowed the Anglican Church (presently the Episcopal Church) to establish itself here in Hawaii.
“They also established one of the finest hospital systems in the Pacific Region, The Queen’s Hospital (presently Queen’s Medical Center). Even when denied money by the government to establish the hospital, the royal couple themselves went house to house soliciting donations to build a place where the people of Hawaii could receive quality health care.”
The celebration will feature a special Feast Day liturgy and the attendance of the Royal Order of Kamehameha. There also will be a free Hawaiian food lunch after the service.
“All are welcome,” Hino said.
Since 1903, the Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles has served the Hilo Community with open and affirming arms and recently started a Pop Up Eucharist ministry at Hilo’s Lincoln Park.
